The breath is the only part of the autonomic nervous system that we can consciously control. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the only way to fully heal. If we are in the sympathetic state: fight, flight, or freeze, then the system cannot fully rest or restore. Melanie has found with her clients that that proper breathing is a necessary component of healing conditions and getting the body into a relaxed state.
